Why Social Media is Improving Google

Back before Blogging became popular Google relied on Webmasters to aid it's search results. As we all know, linking is a vital ingredient in the Google Algo. But the thing is most sites back then were created by webmasters with vested interests.

As blogging took off, publishing moved into the mass-market and everyone with an opinion and a pc could create great content and reference other sites as a useful source of information.

The number of links present on the internet took off massively. Google probably found shed loads of content it didn't have a hope in hell of finding because with these vested interests there was no benefit to the webmasters.

I believe that the explosion in self-publishing and the creation of wonderfully niche sites is greatly improving Google's (and other SE's) serps.

But I don't think we're finished there. With Google's shared stuff that I blogged about before, I reckon Google will be/is placing a great deal of importance on social bookmarks and social bookmarking sites.

From Webmasters to guys and gals with Wordpress or Blogger we will start to see the SERPS being affected by ordinary folk that don't even have the ability to publish online. And to me that's a beautiful thing.

So if you think that Google isn't doing it, or won't do it; could someone create a search engine based on the social bookmarks? But I wonder how long it'll take before it's spammed to death?
