0 To 4,000 Visits A Day In Ten Weeks Using Blogging
Who said social media is crap? I started off blogging as an affiliate a couple of years a go and have seen a flood of other affiliates doing the same. It's taken me that time to really hone my strategy.
I seeded one of my blogs last year and made a couple of sales - which I wasn't bothered about. But I really started to work on it on 2nd Jan and since then it's grown to 4,000 visits a day purely on the back of writing loads and loads of content.

I didn't even do uber-seo, no "black hat" stuff and I didn't have to steal any discount codes either.
My strategy was pure and simple:
1) Find A Niche
2) Find a good domain (the great ones for me had gone)
3) Build a simple blog
4) Do the bog standard onpage SEO
5) Write some unmonetised content
6) Get a few links to it
7) Work out how to get the most relevant information quickly
8) Post about it
9) As traffic starts to grow work out how to get relevant products on to the site quickly
10) Make sure you offer something unique
11) Allow your users to contribute and take ownership
12) Work hard talking to the networks and merchants - build up relationships
13) Continue to slave away even when traffic reaches your target
14) Look a year ahead. I'm thinking of what I should be doing to make the traffic grow for next year. I'm also thinking about if I should do ppc based on my product and merchant knowledge
What surprised me most about the site's stats that there were over 12,000 different keyphrase variations drawing visitors in. This proves that if you write good natural content you'll be able to encompass the keywords that people search on. You don't have to force keywords - think of what's best for your visitor.
In a couple of weeks I'll be posting about which merchants worked well and information about how to work with networks - they can be great! Oh, and if some of you don't know the site, I'll be naming it too.

Wow. This is really encouraging. It also continues to reiterate the importance of good ole fashioned unique, in-depth, relevant content.
Well Done Lee, I know the site involved and how much work you put in.
It goes to show what can be done with a blog, and even that old fashion blogger too1!!
Did you use any social media communities etc.
What I would say though is visitor levels are all good etc but conversion levels is the key :)
Look forward to the follow up emails in future weeks.
That is really impressive, Lee.
OK, I must write more!
Just a question: When you say good domain do you mean short, memorable, brandable domain rather than a keyword domain (or both)?
Also, do you find that SEO traffic converts to buyers as well as PPC traffic?
Tony
@ Tony
sod it! The site is www.easter-eggs.org.uk so it's obviously a kw rich one. The idea was that people are more likely to link to you with the relevent kw's in the link with the domain matching than if it doesn't contain the kw's.
I've not tried ppc on it. But Hotel Chocolat say their PPC affiliates convert at 11-12%. For Thorntons via content I was converting at an average rate of arround 9% - which I suppose isn't bad.
@ Purple me ol' mucker
lol - the way I look at SEO is that its about getting the right visitors, not just any. It's basically the same as PPC.
But its the help from the merchants and networks that make the difference. They really help you to focus on what's good for the consumer whilst you keep an eye on how to get them from the search engines to the merchant (via your links of course)!
I didn't really have enough time to target the social media stuff this year as I focused mainly on content and seo. Next time maybe.
Anyone want any chocolate - I've had enough!
It's always great to see an example of the beenfits of content and old fashioned hard work in Affiliate Marketing.
4,000 UV's a day is brilliant - Imagine how the PPCers would love to get their hands on 4,000 UVs a day for free - Even at just 10p a click, they'd still have to fork out £12,000 a month for that sort of traffic, when they could have it for free for a bit of hard work, sweat and content!
"You don't have to force keyowrds. Think of what's best for your visitor"..Yes, so true. Great entry. Thanks.
Domo origato, Mr Roboto...
It's forever true; content is king. If the niche is there and you can serve it, there's money to be made.
I am personally interested more in the "how to monetise" aspect, but it's always encouraging to see solid progress like this actually quantified.
Lee,
I've been watching (via google reader) your Easter egg site for a couple of months now. Credit where it's due - you've kept up with the numerous blog posts!
Has the blog acquired an amount of back links - what sort of referring links have your obvious efforts brought?
You must had had your fill ...room for just one little mini egg?
John
This is really good. Thanks for your post. Will implement some of them into my website
hiya, Lee, spotted you'd updated some of the content to focus on Father's Day - would be interesting to see how that's done!
I hope life's good,
dan
As they say, nothing beats churning out good, relevant and original content.
I've just started out my Hollywood celeb fashion blog and hopefully my comments, rants and critiques will reach your level! Cheers.
Nothing beats high quality content. The more you have on your site, the more visitors will flock to you, recommend you, bookmark you, subscribe to your RSS feed etc.
Link building SHOULD be a natural process, and if you are providing helpful, insightful content then you will draw visitors/linkers organically.
I think that this blog is a very good example of that. Thanks for the tips Lee.
Dan.
