MyVoucherCodes Sold For £7 Million?

I've just had this comment added to a previous post:

I heard he's sold MVC which is based in Rotherham for around £7 million and all the staff apart from Tom Packer who owns around 20% was sacked on the Monday. I still think they've done so well, fair play to them.

I'm not too sure of the Rotherham bit, as I've got Mark's address as South Croydon, Surrey. I've also only got one director of the company. However, Rotherham Business News states that MVC is a Rotherham company and also mentions Tom Packer as "head of web development."

It also looks like he's involved with two new companies - Cruicked Bars Ltd and Smile Heaven Limited which were set up in June this year.

So why would Mark sell MVC? Well I know he's not the only voucher code site owner that's been thinking of selling - if the news is correct. There's been added pressure from affiliates such as myself and then latterly by networks and merchants to respond to their requests to improve the journey to sale that consumers make - so I'm not suprissed.

Existem has just entered the market with VoucherCodes.at - have they done it too late? Has the Voucher Code bubble burst, or are we just approaching the adolescence of the market?

Not a bad return for a couple of years work with all the generated commisions on top of that. I saw Mark Pearson on BBC News 24 talking about Christmas deals and offers so may be he liked being on TV so much he has sold up! A good time to sell with the new rules and extra weight on voucher codes sites next year. Could we see him move into price comparison now? Which he started to do with MVC.

I worked with Thomas packer throughout 2007 on various projects, he's a talented young coder - should be about 20/21 now so if it's true i'm glad he will get alot out of the sale of MVC.

He's developed quite a few hit sites.

I've not been able to get into contact with him to ask although.

ohh and it looks like mark bought up tom's various sites, like http://mingleville.com/x_home.html which was launched as facevault a few years ago.

I'd love to find out if this was true! I noticed the myvouchercodes website went through some big changes in the space of a week after i had heard the rumor and so is it true??? This was back in November a couple of months ago.

I've always said I'm in codes for the long haul BUT everyone has their price and £7 million would definitely be above my YES! trigger level.
I know Mark P has always had other business interests so it would make sense to maximise his return.
I personally think this Christmas is likely to be the high tide point for voucher codes sites and as the recession bites they will remain popular but never be as profitable as they have been over the last 2 years.
To that extent I would say Existem's site is too late - and given Matt's regular pot stirring I look forward to getting my own back ;-)

looks like the rumours are false! Just had a nudge from someone in the know!

Highly doubt this is true, who would pay 7mil when they can just create their own using a £49 script like existem has done.

Not sure if this is true, but fair play if it is.

Thanks for mentioning our site Lee, it was knocked up quite quickly with the base of it using a script which was as 'anon James' purchased for little cash! We have spent some time tweaking it though.

Joe - its my job to pot stir ;-) but seriously it's not too late at all - whilst vouchercodes.at is not unique enough to be a big hit it's been a great learning experience.
