The End Of Blogging Is Nigh
The great Robert Scoble has stated that Twitter and TechMeme are killing blogging. I fundamentally disagree.
Blogging, Techmeme and Twitter are all different routes to market. Each has their different uses and wouldn't all be suitable for achieving the same ends. I think Robert forgets that both Techmeme and Twitter is about transitionally messages, whilst blogging is about communications that last. They're easily found within the search engines for years.
Blogging is great for indepth, adult discussions. For me Twitting is for twits. It's jovial banter that isn't naturally suitable for educated debate.
I agree that Twitter is a much better conversation tool, and when you think that open conversation is the best route to expanding your mind, I still prefer blogging as the nature of my thoughts are essentially verbose. I dislike quick one-liners, it simply isn't me.
I think also that when Robert made his views that Blogging is suffering from death twitches because blogs don't dominate the Techmeme leaderboard is naive beyond belief. The list is of news sources. Blogs generally comment on news rather than break it. We all use the sites in the list to find news to comment on. We don't have the abilities or resources to be news agencies.
As with most things to do with marketing, its a case of balance and marketing mix. Twitter has a place in marketing and thought development - it doesn't dominate or replace blogging.
Sorry, the mighty Scobleizer, you've just lost some kudos.
